Research

My research focuses on environmental education, urban agriculture education, sense of place, and professional development of environmental educators. I use various qualitative and quantitative methods. I also became interested in green cities and urban aspects of environmental education and stewardship. Below are my selected publications.

SOCIAL OUTCOMES OF URBAN AGRICULTURE

http://civicecology.org/urbanag

In 2019-2022, we are exploring how urban agriculture in New York City – in community gardens, public schools, and positive youth development programs – encourage youth to become more civically engaged, adapt healthier diet, improve STEM and environmental literacy, and achieve other outcomes. This project is sponsored by Federal Capacity Fund.

Researchers and practitioners often ask me to share my "ecological place meaning" survey (Likert-scale items). I have developed this survey for my dissertation. Feel free to adapt and use it in environmental education or environmental stewardship programs.
